Have you heard all the buzz The Butcher BBQ Stand is getting now? They serve up award-winning barbecue from an old train car in Wellston. It’s THE restaurant everyone wants to try. By now you’ve probably read the NEWSOK review by Dave Cathey, The Food Dude, it was shared all over Facebook a few weeks ago. He said it was on target to become a Oklahoma dining destination. A Oklahoma dining destination? Heck, you had the hubs at award-winning BBQ! We had to give it a try too!I like pig butts and I cannot lie! Best BBQ in OK!Click To Tweet
To get to the The Butcher BBQ Stand from Edmond you can either take the scenic route along Route 66 past Pop’s and the Round Barn or you can take the turnpike east to the Wellston exit. I think it took us about half an hour to get there. The address is 3402 W. Highway 66 in Wellston. The old red train car and picnic tables are a stone’s throw from the Wellston water tower. You can’t miss it.
When we got there we were happy to see that the only thing they had sold out of was chicken. Everything else was fair game and the hubs had to try it all! He ordered the “Meat Locker” that’s a platter filled to the brim with all available meats so he had pulled pork, brisket, ribs, hot links, and smoked sausage PLUS sides and of course a Twinkie for dessert! Good gravy, it was a ton of food! The only thing missing were the burnt ends (and I’m told we will be going back to try those very soon).
Our favorites were the brisket and the ribs. The Meat Locker is definitely a sharable menu item. As a matter of fact, we’ll have enough for sandwiches all weekend long!
Before you go, remember The Butcher BBQ Stand is only open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and when the barbecue is gone, sadly it’s really gone. So my tip is to check their Facebook page before you head out. That’s where they will post when they’ve sold out for the day. Let me know what you think!
