Historical Ghost Tour Edmond

We gathered beneath the light of an October moon at the Gracelawn Cemetery for a ghost tour on Saturday night. Our group was led through the eerie grounds by a carefully appointed guide. As we traveled past the granite silhouettes that marked the graves, we came upon several ghosts. Each departed soul took the time to share the tale of their life and times in Edmond, Oklahoma.

I promise, this wasn’t a typical date night for us. We don’t usually spend our evenings at the cemetery. It was a special event hosted by the Edmond Historical Preservation and Trust, a Historical Ghost Tour. A group of volunteers have come together to organize a real Halloween treat for all who dare enter. Talented storytellers dressed in period costume assume the roles of ten real life characters from Edmond history. We learned how they came to live here and the impact their lives had on our town.

The clever event is being held to raise funds to restore the plaques on historic buildings in downtown Edmond and this week is your last chance to attend. The final tours are scheduled for Friday and Saturday (October 25 and 26). If you go, leave the high heels at home and bring a coat. The tour does take you across the grass and even on a mild evening it gets chilly in the cemetery. I’m not sure if there are age restrictions but the material would be appropriate for kiddos 10 and over.

Tickets in advance are still available at Silver Leaf Gems at 19 N. Broadway. You can get more information about the Historical Ghost Tour in Edmond by calling 285-9700.
