The Central Oklahoma Home Builders Association’s annual fall Parade of Homes is underway with two featured area developments. The featured developments are Chisholm Creek Farms in Edmond and Southfork at Surrey Hills in Yukon. So, I took a quick ride down the turnpike to Yukon yesterday and visited Southfork at Surrey Hills.
I visited four properties during my visit to Southfork. I learned that the smallest square footage for the neighborhood will be 1600 and will range up to around 2600. Two of the model homes I toured were over 2000 square feet. All had open concept public spaces, bright kitchens, and modern finishes. Subway tile backsplashes, barn doors, and “Pinteresty” details were common.
In two of the kitchens, I discovered a possible new trend. Both of the large model homes had built-in dining spaces. The Authentic Homes model had a dining table/surface that was attached to the island, kind of like a peninsula. The Timbercraft Homes model featured a dining nook with built-in benches and storage. You would just add your own table. What do you think? I like the idea of the nook, I think I’d store my Christmas decor inside the benches! But my tastes change so often that I doubt I could do the built-in table. Fortunately, if you’re like me, the builder said they can leave that feature out.
Future development plans include a community clubhouse, pool, playground, and walking trails. The developer has not finalized the details for a homeowner’s association yet. They anticipate annual fees to be around $200. Students living here attend class at Surrey Hills Elementary, Yukon Middle School, and Yukon High School.
A major overhaul at the Surrey Hills Golf Club has brought renewed interest to the area along with new developments, including Southfork. The golf club has renovated the clubhouse, added a fitness center and made improvements to the course and facilities in the past year. I’m told that new Southfork residents will receive a complimentary six-month membership at the golf club and fitness center.
Where is Southfork at Surrey Hills?
The new development is tricky to find (unless you’re a golfer). Even one of the builder’s representatives asked me if I had a hard time getting there. To get to the new neighborhood, take the Turnpike west and exit on Morgan Road. Then go to Northwest Expressway and head west to Mustang Road (about two miles). Take Mustang Road south until you run into the Surrey Hills golf course and turn right, then an immediate left back onto Mustang Road. The addition will be about a mile ahead on the right.
