It won’t be long until the lights of the midway are all a glow and the deep fryers are steaming with grease at State Fair Park in Oklahoma. The Oklahoma State Fair kicks off this week. That’s great news if you have been craving something wrapped in bacon, beer battered and served piping hot on a stick. On the other hand, it’s not so great if your house is listed for sale.
The State Fair Phenomenon
Here’s the deal, during the fair our real estate market slows way down. I’m not sure what causes this phenomenon. I hear that it also happens in local stores and restaurants both fancy schmancy and plain Jane. It could be that the mere thought of gooey cinnamon rolls causes folks to forget about everything else and flock to the fairgrounds. Whatever it is, they sure aren’t shopping, eating out or looking at houses.
How to Improve Your Listing:
While all those prospective buyers are waiting in the cinnamon roll line, this is a good time for you to get some things done to improve your listing. Here are a few suggestions;
- Pack up summer. Anything that won’t be used again until next summer should be packed for the move.
- You know that room you’ve promised the Realtor you would paint? Paint it.
- Freshen up the flower beds, add mulch and cut back any plantings that might be preventing buyers from seeing or even entering the house.
- Go to the fair. Heck, if you can’t beat ’em, why not join them! Just be sure to get something wrapped in bacon while you’re there.
